Hairpin Curve

There’s a hairpin curve up ahead,
And I’m going way too fast.
The other side of the curve is a cliff.
“I should slow down.”
That’s the thought that never occurred to me.
I press the gas pedal.

I survive the crash,
But I’m in the hospital in a coma.
I can’t talk, I can’t eat,
I can’t move.
It’s not the curve’s fault--
It’s mine for not slowing down.
